VocaScene

YouTube language learning

Learn a language with YouTube videos you already want to watch

VocaScene adds a focused learning layer to supported YouTube videos. Follow the original captions with a translation, inspect an unfamiliar word without leaving the video, and save only the vocabulary you want to remember.

Before you start

YouTube support is enabled by default in the VocaScene Chrome extension. A video must have a usable caption track; caption availability and accuracy are controlled by the video and YouTube.

How to use VocaScene with YouTube

  1. Step 1

Add VocaScene to Chrome and create or sign in to your VocaScene account.

  2. Step 2

Open a YouTube video with captions in the language you are learning.

  3. Step 3

Choose the actual caption language, then use the VocaScene subtitle layer while you watch.

  4. Step 4

Click useful words or phrases to see an explanation and save them with their sentence and timestamp.

What the learning layer adds

Keep the video in view

Check a word beside the scene instead of switching repeatedly between the video, a dictionary and a notes app.

Save the moment, not just the word

A saved item keeps its source sentence and video position so the context that made it memorable is easier to revisit.

Turn watching into review

Your selected vocabulary can move into VocaScene review activities instead of disappearing in browser history.

A practical study routine

  1. 1.Pick a short video whose subject genuinely interests you.
  2. 2.Watch once for meaning and avoid pausing for every unknown word.
  3. 3.On a second pass, save a small number of useful words or phrases.
  4. 4.Review those items later, then replay the original line to hear them in context.

What to know

  • VocaScene does not create captions when a video has no usable caption track.
  • Automatically generated captions may contain mistakes, names or punctuation errors.
  • VocaScene is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by YouTube.

Frequently asked questions

Can I learn a language with any YouTube video?

Use a video that has a usable caption track in your learning language. Videos without captions cannot provide the same word-level learning flow.

Does VocaScene translate the whole YouTube video?

VocaScene works with available captions and provides subtitle translation and word explanations. It does not replace the video audio or create a new dubbed version.

Is YouTube language learning enough on its own?

Video gives valuable listening and context, but active selection, recall and repeated exposure matter. VocaScene connects those actions to the video you watched.

Learn from more than one screen

The same VocaScene vocabulary loop works across supported video platforms, then carries selected words into your private library and review.
